Kemek :: Obake Radio (Architects + Heroes)

Recommended and clearly deserves a listen from all abstract modern space-ambient lovers.

Highly prolific project with a bunch of digital releases published on MutiMusic, Kemek represents the creatively minimal pulsating ambient and flashy IDM facets of Adam Douglas “soundworld.” This is my first listening experience into the musical universe of Mr. Douglas that I must confess is rather outside of my usual tastes in electronic music. It is not a surprise but I’ve never been fascinated by the hyper-active breakbeat side and techno-ish experiments of electronic music, so when I was offered to review this new Kemek and after having notified its musical trajectory I was first skeptical and scared to be in the situation to have nothing really to say about this new digital opus. Needless to hide my apprehension. However after one, then two serious listens I must admit that Obake Radio is a surprise and a good one (at least for my personal appreciation about independent electronic music culture).

Indeed the musical trip provides computerized ambient dronescapes, exquisitely abstract, buzzing and minimal with some really dense spaced-out moments. Most of tracks oscillate between automatic digitized ambiences with a loving attention on enthralling psych-droning effects and blissful patchwork of colorful textured, fragmented synthesized kosmische melodies. Captivating with gently synthesized floating sequences and sometimes nervous if not lysergic droning sequences punctuated by well-found algorithmic schemas, this last will ravish fans of adventurous soundscapes of Eno, Cluster, Arc, Robert Henke as well as listeners who are into the most cerebral tendency of IDM from Aphex Twin or Bola. Recommended and clearly deserves a listen from all abstract modern space-ambient lovers.
