Jacob London :: Splat EP (Titbit Music, 12inch)

1525 image 1 (04.16.07) Titbit is a new label, founded on the belief of getting new techno and house music out there. One of the latest releases is by the Seattle duo of Bob Hasnen and Dave Pezzner. The partnership have been releasing music since 1998 on a host of imprints. Now the North West American pair have found themselves on Titbit Music.

The 12″ starts with “I Love Pressure Washing,” a beat laden number with a funky new techno aspect to it. Clever samples cut the track, but the piece itself is quite tiresome. Funky techno, or funky house, have never really had a lot of support; and with good reason. “When I Blew Up” is a more
interesting track with an F Commuications dancefloor feel to it. Beats are central to the track again, but the melodies are better conceived than “I Love Pressure Washing.” The EP finishes with “When I Blew Up – Carola
Pisaturo remix .” Beats feature predominantly as in the original, but breaks come into play. Another club centred number.

Overall, Jacob London’s Splat release is a dance record. The beats are predictable and made for club floors. The sounds are tried and quite tired. There seems to be little behind the record and is not in the same vein as electronic music. As a piece of dance music it works quite well, showing much more potential and intelligence than much of the releases found in nightclubs today. Splat, in general, is a bit of a banger with little to thud about.

Splat is out now on Titbit Music.
