IoNiZeR :: Outerzone Frequency (Dusted Wax Kingdom)

IoNiZeR’s third release for Dusted Wax Kingdom sees the prolific musican delving further into the abyss with Outerzone Frequency.

IoNiZeR ‘Outerzone Frequency’

[Release page] The late 90’s saw the releases of Witchman’s Explorimenting Beats (Deviant, 1997) pushing to the forfront of darkened, bass-laden hip-hop (better known as trip-hop) with a progressive slant as did artists like Scorn on the ever engulfing Ellipsis (Scorn Recordings, 1995). These artists continued to penetrate the ears with scortched low-riding rhythms creating a moody dynamic with visceral appeal. IoNiZeR treads similar terrain as Outerzone Frequency delivers an avalanche of sinister atmospherics molded to trudging pulses of sound. Emitting analog synth lines—if ever so lightly—brief samples and an all encompassing shifting style of bass and beat keeps IoNiZeR also migrating towards early Meat Beat Manifesto stylings. Slowly rolling clicks, clangs and industrial-dub effects flow to the center of chaos as the machinery used to administer such noise radiates a layer of debris against aquatic bass lines. Hip-hop really can’t be ignored here as slight progressions filter above a wall of deep percussive workouts with a lively instrumental angle. Sounding improvised in sections, Outerzone Frequency takes a step ahead even with its classic 90s-era lava flows. So as these blackened spheres of eerie melodies, horns, lyrical washes and ambient undercurrents float above middle-eastern motifs, IoNiZeR succeeds at creating a soundtrack to lows worlds burred in underground caverns just waiting for the light of day.

Outerzone Frequency is available on Dusted Wax Kingdom. [Release page]
