Global Goon :: Vatican Nitez (Rephlex)

Rephlex’s output has always been on the more experimental abstract side of electronics, sometimes pleasing and sometimes distasteful. With the latest release by Jonny Hawk, also known as Global Goon, you get a taste of his most current and colorful audio project, Vatican Nitez. With track titles that will instantly make you chuckle like “Jerky Dharma,” “Scott Cronce is the CEO” and one of the highlights simply entitled “!,” Vatican Nitez aims at bringing the listener intelligently crafted electronics from start to end. A dose of fun and casual electronics splashes all over your ears while odd tweaks manifest themselves. Could this be intelligent pop music? Relaxed and quirky ambience? Pensive electronic excursions in sound innovation? Call it what you will, this album should put a smile to your face with it’s pleasant approach to creative listening.

Warning: While listening to “Business Man” in a vehicle, please be aware of your surroundings.. the sound of a siren might make you wonder where the ambulance is when in fact it’s the Global Goon’s creative energy releasing these lovely sound effects to make you think. A fine album that brings emotional yet pleasantly uplifted listening music to your ears. Nothing too fancy, nothing too shiny.. just precise instrumental percussion and intelligent melodies with a slight pop feel. Fans of Morr Music, City Centre Offices, Audio-Dregs et al take note.

Vatican Nitez is out now on Rephlex.
