Fragile Balloon :: Lamprophonies (Numb Capsule)

A retreat from the usual, offering a subdued electronic microcosm that merits repeated observation.

Numb Capsule is a new imprint based in Thessaloniki, Greece which includes support from John Trifonopoulos (aka Esoteric Sob) and aims to divulge the inner workings of leftfield electronic music and specialized graphic design. Their latest album produced by Fragile Balloon is an exemplary take on classic IDM/glitch and playful electrical tones for the ears.

“Falling Yeast” channels a hybrid drum and space versus drone and bass as a variety of instruments get entangled in a beautiful mess. Elsewhere you’ll find tweaked synths foraging for lost data bits while analog crumbs pierce through dusty ambient streams. “Postural Numbness” elicits low bass emissions as Quinoline Yellow styled post-electro/IDM pulses abound. “Maxee Through the Aerostat” features crisp chimed noise balanced with old-school technical breaks/techno. Ambient tones whirring away in the background can be found on “Where r u menazt?”—a blur for the sense as lightly buzzed tones flow through a calm pitter-patter. The title track—an amalgam of its counterparts—seeks to enrich the sonic pallet with a percussive onslaught of chaotic baselines and ricocheted rhythm.

In all Lamprophonies is a retreat from the usual, offering a subdued electronic microcosm that merits repeated observation.

Lamprophonies is available on Numb Capsule.
