(02.16.09) English Electric returns to the electronic arena with his second EP, this time on the Dumb Terminal imprint. Following the success of his Auto Beam EP on Mighty Robot Recordings, how does the three tracker Posable Flotsam hold up?

The title track of breaths life into the record with waves of synthesizer sound, light snares and bleeping ripples. The track borders into electronica, its light cascading electro tones being reminiscent of the likes of Bochum Welt with a more movie soundtrack aspect.

The b-side opens with “Epitaxy.” The track comes in a similar vein as its predecessor. Synthlines shimmer and flex in the back drop as deeper tones are layered over fragile beats. The track is a relaxed work of electro with elements that call back a 90s British techno sound. English Electric stretches and pulls on his melodies, scrunching them and lifting them to produce an interesting piece. The three tracker comes to an end with “Minority Transporter.” The tone of the 12″ changes for the ultimate track. English Electric acidifies his compositions as 303 style melody twists and squelches sit atop warming string and beats to produce an eerie and haunting work.

Posable Flotsam is an extension of English Electric’s Auto Beam sound whilst dipping a timorous toe into new audio territory. The constructs border into the realm of electronics, but central tones keep the tracks anchored in the realism of electro. English Electric has used familiar sounds, harking back to the days of A.R.T. and B12, but has reshaped and reinvigorated them with his own twist. Technoesque tones and acidic audiowaves float and fall to produce an intriguing EP of innovative anglo-electronics.
