Emptyset :: Recur (Raster-Noton)

With its low centre of gravity and alienating, single-word titles, English duo Emptyset are a bit of a nasty propostion within the community of lower-case industrial electronica. As appealing as the sound of radial tires rolling over shattered safety glass, the Bristol-based duo of James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas short-circuit and media-blast what are actually very strict architectural frameworks, forcing the listener to reexamine notions of rhythm. Recur is not so much an eternal return as an infernal refinement of the so-ugly-you-can’t-look-away necessity that was its previous extended-player, Medium. Damn if it doesn’t eventually seem beautiful, though be aware that it has not been sanitized for your protection.

Recur is available on Raster-Noton.
