elDot 'Among'

Among‘s undercarriage of a post-industrial apocalypse leans somewhat on Architect and Kattoo’s outer shell unearthing tormented synths and washed-out machinery that trickles its way into the ear canals. Elsewhere, however, there are Panacean moments of a more aggressive drum’n bass nature that it becomes a continual effort to digest the artists direction. Compressed beats collate slowly in some instances, yet it’s the moments of (ambient) lyrical shuffling (spoken in Greek) interspersed throughout, acting like sonic-interludes driving this 38-minute story into obscurity. Time shifts erratically on Among, a mixture of slowbeat, downbeat and upbeat electronics that ever so slightly touches upon multiple genres without hindering its qualitative musical delivery. The artistic view from elDot‘s perch is indirectly related to Chiastic Slide-era Autechre and the new(er) school ethos of imprints like Lovethechaos and Crazy Language. This dynamic perspective that migrates art and music is nonetheless prevalent on Among, a mirage of eccentric audio formations that contort in an unusually inviting fashion.
