Ecto Mist :: Equal EP (Genot Centre)

Underground turbulence and low-end structures wrap themselves around fuzzy atmospheric debris. Equal is an addictive, nocturnal, and delirious state of erratic dub-consciousness.

Prague-based cassette label Genot Centre unleashes a 5-track extended player from Ecto Mist. Underground turbulence and low-end structures wrap themselves around fuzzy atmospheric debris. Crunchy, subdued and bound by some unusual forces, the skittery tones on “8 (Version 3)” evolves into a claustrophobic dub extract—its bass sliding across the floor while tiny clips cascade. Similar sounds prevail on “2 (Version 2),” a surreal landscape devoid of humans, abandoned factories make strange noises in a rhythmic transmission. Ecto Mist masters the art of maximum minimalism where sketches of Pole’s early days aren’t too far off. The static clicks on “14 (Version 6)” delve into lost data streams, low-end flutter, and eventually expand into an electrical storm the tugs and pushes on all senses—no Waldorf Pole Filters were damaged in the making. You’ll find microscopic melody strands on “3 (Version 4),” an emotively drawn soundscape that twists and turns below muddy sinewaves. As the artist cleverly arranges music in a coherent yet disjointed manner, electroacoustic and found sounds run rampant. In summary, Equal is an addictive, nocturnal, and delirious state of erratic dub-consciousness.
