Dynarec :: The Lost Souls EP (Delsin, 12")

The title track is a grand old slice of analogue, pitch-bent, 80’s electro-funk wizardry that’s probably one of the most addictive and technically perfected tracks Delsin have ever put out. It always brings a smile to the face and is utterly irresistible. But wait –don’t be fooled by this happy-go-funky electro-fun, for it is merely a cunning foil designed to leave the listener unprepared for what is to follow. “Lamatry” instantly devastates as it tears through the speakers. Its dark-hearted, distorted synths scar the senses as dangerously
Over-loaded 4/4 beats pummel the soul. You have been warned.

The flip begins with a brief reprieve in the form of the 8-bit thunk of “Seed The Mark.” This is quickly followed by the EP’s second epic assault: “Tess Till 340.” The production on these tracks is staggering and is epitomized here by the magnificently complex manipulation of the soundstage. Piercing hi-hat percussion, the arpeggiated mayhem that is the core of the track and the killer FX shot in every direction from the track’s dark centre elevate “Tess Till 340” to classic status. There’s a peculiarity to the pressing of side 2 of this disc. Once you’ve recovered from “Tess Till 340,” you’ll notice your needle will have run into a locked groove located halfway through the disc. Moving this to the beginning of an additional un-credited track will allow you to hear “Use Only
One,” a slick computer groove set to appear on the forthcoming Dynarec album, User Input.

As is the case with both the R-CAM EP, which precedes it and the User Input album that is to follow, Dynarec’s The Lost Souls EP comes highly recommended. Not for the faint-hearted.

The Lost Souls EP is OUT NOW on Delsin Records.
