DMX Krew :: Cosmic Awakening EP (Shipwrec)

The Cosmic Awakening EP offers up a vintage, acidic swell, generated from many a percussive build up with plenty of vivid laser beams, all offset against its tuneful bleeps.

DMX Krew 'Cosmic Awakening'

DMX Krew This bright funky electro release (from DMX Krew) takes its themes from the sublime early discothèque mood shakers and flirts outrageously with vintage house styled blends of synth mania. That said, don’t think too energetically – it still manages to remain immensely mellow, hence is most likely to be a godsend for DJs looking to create an inspiring warm up set for the cool clubbers amongst us.

Its city chic sounds grasp a keen sense of rhythms that swim nicely in bright disco lights and are ready to go some way to draw an audience in to that all important feel good factor of brewing excitement. Gone is any sense of cold, bleak outlooks and in comes music that draws a picture of what is perfectly warm and soulful. With diverse blends of sound that explore numerous inflections of hyped techno authenticity it dishes up a bright swell of chilled out vibes.

The clasps of “Beta Particle” provide for the perfect warm up. Its sharp melody line comes into play before an expanse of more visionary material emerges. The beat works solidly in the background while the bass line keeps this track focused on its original dance direction. Providing contrast is “Stepping Zone” – more hardcore and reaching down into its own depths created by the experimentation among the lower octaves, yet still, it manages to have a unique glamour, highlighted by those sharp edged timbres that come into play.

Edging more towards a techno personality is “Chi Sygni” – by far the most diverse, creating dramatic patterns with its beat synergies.  In the dark corner of the continent sits “Future City – its beats lash out to all corners of the map – an existence which is eerie and perhaps lonely as we reach this point. That’s not to say there isn’t plenty of activity on this one – an energy well dispersed and placed in equal segments at every vortex. The sparse expanse of “Give Me Something” has a slight discothèque feel to it – its instrumentation is minimalistic but it’s jump-started with lively beats.

The Cosmic Awakening EP offers up a vintage, acidic swell, generated from many a percussive build up with plenty of vivid laser beams, all offset against its tuneful bleeps. Largely a spacious instrumental work that has an interesting network of beats and a mellow flip-side that is awakened with its down-tempo swings of mood.
