DJ Godfather :: This is Detroit EP

With all the elaborate tools and fancy techniques available these days it’s easy for producers to get lost in the details. But once upon a time things were much simpler, and the electronic pioneers had to think creatively in order to get good results from the 8-bit samplers and MIDI-less synths that were on offer. A witness to those early days, Godfather takes us back to basics here demonstrating just how much you can do with a kick, a sub, a clap and a hi-hat. The underpinnings of this release are essentially those four elements woven into raw techno grooves which you know are guaranteed to get a crowd moving. The icing on the cake is a combination of old-school synth stabs and looped male rap vocals clearly designed with the club in mind.

Definitely one for the DJ’s, the tracks are a little too bland and repetitive to warrant much home listening but in the hands of a skilled selector these babies will work wonders on the floor and I can see them getting incorporated nicely into any number of styles and scenes outside of the Detroit warehouses from which they were spawned.
