[Release page] Atra Aeterna (aka Zack Mitchell) returns with a six-pack of brief audio extractions that focuses more on industrial shards of emotional debris compared to previous pensive ambient flutter. “Rituals” develops a series of sub-atomic clicks’n skips and an atmospheric wash of brittle noise. “Signal Flares” evokes lightly brushed beats and brief piano pigments as “A Devotion to the Aether” dissipates an electrical current of hypnotism, piano strokes and a micro-epic soundtrack mood. “Karn” contains a march of screeching eerie beauty, hollow echoes and moments lost in time. “Embers In Snow” is perhaps the most soothing of the lot as light background shuffling and soft pattering of piano keys form in the horizon. “Creeping Through Fevers” is the most beat-centric piece filled with textured clips, cuts and abstraction which is rhythmic-based and buzzing from start to close. As Standalone Complex unveils relatively condensed track lengths, they somehow converge into dreamlike sound-escapes of emotive clarity, mechanized beauty and organized ambient-industrial bliss.
