AFTR :: Exothing EP (Cunei Media)

Exothing is a welcomed introduction to decayed electrical detail emitting a fuzzy, noisy and percussive dub pulse that simply pulls you into its luminous gravity.

An artist must challenge themselves in order to find that delicate balance where sound can flow in just about any direction and still present itself in the most unique way. Daniel Lofreda Rota recently unveiled his Untide moniker with Somehow Recordings via a self-titled album earlier this year—described as ambivalent exotica—and now reforms as AFTR for Cunei Media on this gratuitous EP. Finding himself in these sonic passages, Daniel treads contained dub-techno strains and pushes air molecules through a vacuum of low-end grit and roughened syncopation.

“Next To Nothing” contains emotive atmospheric pressure and a thinned vocal presence which echoes deep in the background. “Dronos” elicits similar patterns with its slow-motion evolution and eventual surplus of bass and ambient texture. “Abulafic” and “Incephel” are perhaps the most upfront in their delivery. Cyclic rumblings and rugged channels of drone ‘n tone merge to form a cosmic swirl.

In whole or part, Exothing is a welcomed introduction to decayed electrical detail emitting a fuzzy, noisy and percussive dub pulse that simply pulls you into its luminous gravity. Fans of Monolake will relish in this brisk, audible venture.

Exothing is available on Cunei Media.
