Exclusive audio interview with Valgeir Sigurdsson

Bit-Phalanx and Bedroom Community have exclusively given Igloo Magazine the full-length 20 minute interview for you to enjoy, in which Valgeir talks about his vast career, his work managing the Bedroom Community, thoughts in Icelandic and Electronic music in general, and much more, all of which features a warm backdrop of yet more gems from the Bedroom Community catalogue.

Valgeir Sigurðsson

As one of Iceland’s most established and reputable engineers and producers, not to mention boss of Reykjavík’s leading Greenhouse Recording studios, Valgeir Sigurðsson is a name you may well have seen on the credits of many notable album sleeves over the last 15 years. With a hand in albums by everyone from Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, CocoRosie, Maps, Camille, Múm, Ane Brun, Fiest, and no fewer than four of Björk‘s pioneering albums, it was only a matter of time until Valgeir unveiled his own work to the world. Not only did he do this with remarkable results on his stunning 2007 debut Ekvílibríum, but he also did this through his own brand new Bedroom Community label, bringing together some of Iceland’s (and indeed the world’s) finest composers and producers, providing a unique collective home for the likes of Nico Muhly, Ben Frost, Sam Amidon, Daníel Bjarnason and Puzzle Muteson, to name but an impressive few.

To celebrate the recent release of his 2nd solo album, Architecture Of Loss (3rd album actually, if you count his haunting soundtrack for Icelandic independent film Draumalandið aka: Dreamland), Valgeir has joined forces with English label for all music electronic, Bit-Phalanx, and has provided their regular Bit-Pod radio podcast series with an exclusive 30 minute guest “mixtape” compiled entirely from the archives of Bedroom Community, and charmingly entitled Community Bread. As well as this guest mix, Valgeir has generously given his time for an interview for the show (as quizzed by the one and only Coppe’, “the legendary Godmother of Japanese Electronic”), and the edited results can also be found within the podcast.
