“As smaller American cities evolve into tomorrow’s slow-churn
cosmopolitan epicenters, urban renewal becomes the cause and effect of
emerging, microcosmic landscapes of ruin. Facades crumble, paint
fades with time, window glass is distorted and cracked, city crews
mismatch colors in their pursuit to refinish tagged warehouse walls.
The gestures of time, mother nature and the human hand all create
their own form of graffiti, and their indelible mark is left to
obscure the original lustre and allure of what once was. This
unintentional transformation recreates the origins of historical aims
and by way of outside forces creates something stirringly different.
dk is my capture of these moments and motions. They may not be
‘perfect’ but that’s in part, the point.”
    (TJ Norris, May 2005)

Oregon-based, multimedia artist TJ Norris explores aspects of urban
decay in his new series of photographs. This new body of work
includes duo image sets that are paired somewhat through improvisation
and instant choice. Based on the simplicity and structure of lines
and tones he works similarly to some of his collaborative
musician/composer counterparts Scanner, Nobukazu Takemura, Asmus
Tietchens, Xela, Frans de Waard, Aranos, Janek Schaefer Dan Burke and
others. The work is meant to be seen and (maybe even) heard.

This exhibition runs simultaneously with the 6th annual presentation
of Mutek, Montreal’s premiere international electronic music festival
    (see: mutek.ca).
