V/A :: Iugeri Sonus III (Acre)

2013 feels like a year richer than any other in terms of incredible new music—the constant supply of fine ear fodder continues to astound and amaze. This compilation continues that theme and is third in an excellent series from Acre Recordings—providing an astonishingly high-quality collection of electronic experiments.

The Edinburgh based label describe themselves as audiophiles and vinyl junkies—setting up the label to fill ‘the hole left in the electronic genre by Warp.’ Iugeri Sonus III sits right in that space—mixing haunting melodies with clinically produced glitchy IDM, electro, whatever-step and experimental sounds.

Things don’t come better than C.Mantle’s extraordinary remix of Honeytrap’s “Hours with the Masters” or Ronny Ragtroll’s Raster Noton / Monolake channeling “Outpost.” Christopher Robin’s “Savier” feels like a drastically time stretched 90’s drum and bass classic from the Ed Rush and Optical era whilst the ever excellent Carl Finlow contributes a cracking melodic electro roller. And if that’s not enough to whet the old lugholes then check out Rory St John’s thumping “Unceremony”—immense.

A superbly mastered compilation for fans of complex, darker electronic music. For the full 24 tracks head across to Acre Recordings. [Release page]
