Walking into Detroit’s Movement Festival can be electrifying. Six stages with acts that range from techno to hip hop, and house; fans of every shape size and origin; and artists mingling with those fans is what is there to be found in Hart Plaza—a park in Downtown Detroit that was seemingly built for exactly the type of festival that ensued. The headliners this year included Dog Blood aka Skrillex and Boys Noize, DJ Snoopadelic aka Snoop Dogg, and Squarepusher, but it was often on the smaller stages where the real magic happened (though Dog Blood’s set was akin to a summoning of extraterrestrials). Acts like hard techno master Steffi, gospel house vet Floorplan, super-duo Jets (Machinedrum & Jimmy Edgar), and tech house DJ Midland were among the many to impress during the three day festival.
