V/A :: Frequencity (subVariant)

Though Frequencity doesn’t rely on any one particular audible path, it pushes through new branches of thought — as the cover-art depicts — to unveil an assemblage of electronic music disorder, all hailing from Chicago. Techno, experimental, IDM, post-rock, downtempo, classical, chiptune, electro and acid are all smashed together in a sprite compilation that lightly brushes upon each of these styles.

V/A

[Release page] Chicago, Illinois-based subVariant has become a signature for the windy city’s electronic music/art scene. This time around, lifting the variant namesake to another level, Frequencity aims to present a multi-genre snapshop of the Chicagoian soundscape. Balancing a careful assortment of nonrestrictive moods, each piece could very well subdivide into their own respective directions similar to what Bleep.com did for the 2006 release of Bleeps-oh-six; an omnibus of highlighted newcomers. Cutting a similar slice through the proverbial deep dish of windswept music, subVariant manages to convey a mission of open-mindedness allowing free-form experiments to flourish in the realm of the imprints forward-thinking dynamic. Frequencity is out on subVariant.
