C.DB.SN + Scaffolding

[Release page] Fragile electrical currents reminiscent of Atol Scrap-era Arovane mixed with Soup-styled layers of Bola are featured on the latest EP from Denver, Colorado-based Plastic Sound Supply.

Subdued percussive elements float alongside shimmering synth notes as melancholic deconstructs cast curious shadows on the current state of rhythm-inspired IDM explorations. This nostalgic sense of wonder, accord and optimism for the continuation of pure eclectronics is ever present on this four-track remix collaboration between C.DB.SN and Scaffolding. Coming across as a gelatinous mold of analog-to-digital distractions, both artists offer one track and a remix of their neighboring counterpart. While the concept may not be new, what remains intact is the realism of sonic shapes flexing in classic Artificial Intelligence formation.

Scaffolding breaks the ice on the brush-stroked organics of “Metals,” a subterranean maze of fluctuating beauty. C.DB.SN remixes “Metals” and cultivates a skeletal hue of the originals contours; the melodic waves flow in parallel pathways, however, its beatwork is slightly manipulated. C.DB.SN’s “Mercury” unfolds curiously as a foggy mirror-image of “Metals;” distortion sets-in towards its exit although a meandering swell of atmosphere, glitch, clips’n bleeps scatter about in the horizon. Scaffolding’s closing remix of “Mercury” plunges the depths of subtle electro motifs balanced against acidic undertones and an upbeat display of playful rhythmic acrobatics. Such an apt closure to this kaleidoscopic sojourn has these ears itching for a little more from these audio architects.

Without fail, C.DB.SN and Scaffolding offer complimentary extracts of creative sound blurring that bypasses the plethora of sub-genre’s that have emerged over the years. Keeping a firm grip on style tied to emotive synergies, Covalent States manifests itself as a genuine glance through the past as it lifts spirits forward. If ‘covalence’ is defined as “the number of electron pairs that an atom can share with other atoms,” then Plastic Sound Supply is the nucleus for which these electrons are able to flourish and multiply. On that note, it’s a job well done.

Covalent States is out now on Plastic Sound Supply. [Release page]
